/Television News Articles/ - SAN BRUNO, CA, August 24, 2006 - YA Entertainment LLC, a home entertainment company and exclusive licensee and publisher of popular Korean TV drama programming on DVD with English subtitles in North America, released today the long awaited Korean TV drama series, "Glass Slipper." This popular 40-episode series is described as the quintessential Korean TV drama with one of the most unforgettable endings in Korean drama history.
"Glass Slipper" received a 41.8% viewership rating during its original broadcast in 2002. The "Glass Slipper" series tells the tale of two orphaned sisters separated as children and their eventual reunion as adults. An uplifting story about "beating the odds," "Glass Slipper" possesses all the essential elements that continue to attract viewers to Korean dramas from around the world.
Currently, over 25 million American households have access to popular Korean TV dramas through cable and local TV channels. Americans are increasingly drawn to Korean dramas' emotionally engaging storylines and intriguing characters. This is part of the growing awareness of the 'Korean Wave,' referring to the popular trend of South Korean movies and TV dramas embraced by audiences worldwide, including those in China, Japan, Mexico and Egypt.
"Korean TV dramas are first class entertainment. These heartwarming, inspirational and refreshing dramas teach valuable lessons the whole family can enjoy," said Tom Larsen, President, YA Entertainment. "Americans are just catching up to the phenomenal popularity of the Korean dramas. The 'Korean Wave' and high quality K-dramas have captivated worldwide audiences, including a growing viewership in the U.S. turned off the "shock driven" television and cinema of today."
As evidence of the growing mainstream appeal of the Korean TV dramas, a recent survey conducted by YA Entertainment showed that 91% of Korean TV drama viewers in the U.S. are not of Korean descent and more than 60% were over the age of 40. "Glass Slipper" is now available at select national retail chain stores, online at Amazon.com and YesAsia.com as well as 400 independent video stores. In addition to "Glass Slipper," YA Entertainment will also be releasing "Palace" and "My Girl" before the summer ends.
